Introducing Idjwi Island
A Women Producer Program from Lake Kivu, DR Congo
We’re excited to introduce a new offering this year from Rebuild Women’s Hope (RWH), an impactful Women Producers Program from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Rebuild Women’s Hope
Founded by Marcelline Budza in 2013, she set out to create and foster opportunities and resources for the women of Idjwi Island in the center of Lake Kivu.
Women have faced significant challenges both in their communities and in the coffee industry in the DRC. RWH was created with the goals of fighting the inequalities that women in agriculture face and supporting the health and empowerment of women and girls.
RWH believes that income controlled by women has a significant impact on the life of the family as well as the development and well-being of the community.
Women-Led All the Way
These coffees are also unique because we are working with women leaders at every point in the supply chain. From the producers and the logistics coordinator in the DR Congo, to our own green buyer Claudia and Cafe Imports logistics coordinator Kate, we’re proud to have an excellent team of women bringing these coffees to you.
Our first offering from this program is in store now. We are excited about this new partnership in the DR Congo and are looking forward to continuing it through harvests to come. For more info on RWH and their coffees, head to the offering page at the button below.
