Background:

AAPOSAstands for Asociación Agrícola Productores Orgánicos Xejuyú Atitlan, an association that was founded by just under 100 smallholder organic farmers in 2000, and which now boasts more than 150 members. AAPOSA's members produce certified-organic coffees by using ashes and dried leaves as organic fertilizer, and they also grow shade trees to protect the natural diversity of the areas where the coffees grow.
